A soft breeze tickles my shoulder, waking me from my serene, sleepy haze. One glance at my watch tells me it’s time to head back to the room if I expect to be ready for
this rendezvous with Lana and Mr. Blue Eyes. She’s right, of course. She’s convinced me to go. But only because it really does sound like fun, and I’d much rather let Lana humor herself than spend my first afternoon on a cruise ship by myself.
I collect my things and hurry down the deck, veering around a corner to catch the elevator. The hallway is bustling with people getting on and off, many of them opting to
take the stairs instead of waiting for the next lift. After waiting patiently for a few minutes, I decide to follow their cue and start for the stairs. I’m cutting it close.
I jog up two flights, sighing when our stateroom door comes into view. The hall is quiet, except for the faint sound of hushed giggling just a few doors down. I insert
my room key and crane my head toward the noise, my fingers stilling at the sight. There at the end of the hall, a curvaceous brunette is entangled with Mr. Blue Eyes. I almost don’t recognize him, but his baby blue tie immediately gives him away. His tall frame is pinning the brunette’s petite one to the wall, one hand pushing up her skirt, fingers gripping her upper thigh. He playfully bites her bottom lip and she giggles again, hooking her leg around
his waist. The scene is entirely intimate, not to mention unprofessional for Mr. Owner of the Ship, and yet here I am, watching like a total stalker.
I can’t look away.
“Tanner,” the girl moans against his mouth, “take me inside.”
“I’ll take you right here.”
“Someone will see,” she whispers, gripping his forearms. He subtly rocks his hips, pushing her tighter against the wall, and I realize I’m gaping again, my jaw slack as I
watch his hands roam over her body.
“No one’s around,” he whispers back. “Everyone’s headed up to the lounge for the party.”
“Don’t you have to be there?”
“I have fifteen minutes.”
“That’s it?” The girl whines, her face turning pouty.
“Oh, it’s enough, baby.” His hand travels higher up her skirt, and I see a flash of red lace before my clumsiness gives me away. The room key fumbles in my fingers and
drops from the doorknob to the floor. I quickly bend to swipe it up, bonking my head on the doorknob in the process.
“Shit!” I quickly stand, frantically attempting to open the door. I risk a side-glance
toward them.
I wish I hadn’t.
Tanner clears his throat, and his eyes lock onto me like missiles. As soon as I meet them, he looks away, back to the brunette, mumbling something I can’t quite make out. It involves a string of F-bombs. Adjusting his groin and tugging at the sleeves of
his suit jacket, he quietly directs the brunette to open their stateroom door.
She’s amused and embarrassed, covering her mouth as she struggles to unlock the
door. Tanner and I exchange one last glance before both of our doors open, saving the day. He and the brunette hurry inside, and I hustle into my room just as quickly, exhaling in relief the moment the door shuts behind me.
I work to collect my wits. I’ve just made a complete fool out of myself, and in less than fifteen minutes, I’m supposed to face the man I just caught manhandling his girlfriend. Hell, more than that. He would have fucked her right there in the hallway had I not ruined the heat of the moment. I fall back against the door and hang my head in exasperation.
“Lan?” I call out, pushing myself off the door and moving toward the tiny bathroom. She’s not there, and the rest of the cabin is empty. She must have left for the lounge already. Hurrying to my suitcase, I dig around for my little black dress—the one Lana suggested I wear—and then begin washing up. I take a few minutes to freshen up my loose, brown curls and apply some smoky eyeliner to enhance my hazel brown eyes. I feel fresher, but no amount of primping will prevent the big ol’ pile of awkward I’m about to walk into.

★ Book Blitz Giveaway ☆ The Replacement by Rachael Wade

The Replacement by Rachael Wade
*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

Official Teaser from The Replacement:
A fine shiver runs down my spine as I watch his confident stride to the other side of the Jeep. He gets in and his woodsy scent engulfs me as he starts the ignition. We drive for about twenty minutes, making small talk and casually flipping through radio stations when it hits me that we’re not approaching a neighborhood, but a campground.

“Uh…so you really are taking me for a Thanksgiving Day hike?” I look at him in surprise, not at all prepared for a romp in the mountains. I’m still recovering from my dream and the fact that I slept straight through my alarm this afternoon, not to mention the fact that my black heeled booties aren’t very proper for a hike in the woods.

“Before you panic,” he says, parking the Jeep and leaning across me to reach the glove compartment, “shut your eyes.”

“Shut my eyes?”

“You heard me.”
I do as he says and can’t help the smile that’s forming on my lips. I can hear the smile in his voice and his closeness is causing all of my muscles to lock up. As I hear him open the glove box, I’m swamped with the realization that I want him to kiss me again, the way he did the night of the festival.

But that was a first kiss and I ruined it, and Nate’s fingerprints are still branded on my skin.
I hear the rustling of a bag and a soft snap, and then something is touching my lips, but it’s not Ryder’s mouth. It’s sweet and salty and divine. “Open,” Ryder says patiently, his tone smooth like silk. My lips part and my tongue is met with luscious chocolate tinged with sea salt. I purr in satisfaction and his finger slides the piece of heaven further onto my tongue.

Mmmm,” I hum, more enthusiastically now. “Oh my God…so good.”

“You can open now.”

I allow my eyes to drift open, and I’m greeted with his, dark as the chocolate melting in my mouth. I swallow and feel my eyelashes flutter with his closeness, his face just inches from mine.

“I don’t believe you, though,” he says. He tilts his head slightly. “I need to taste for myself.”

A hot rush of breath hits my lips and his mouth presses down onto mine. I melt into the seat, my muscles relaxing from his touch. This is nothing like the first kiss. I lean into it, let him draw me into his warmth. The driver’s seat groans as he shifts, cradling my neck and jaw with his rough hands. Our tongues meet and glide, mixing and exchanging the remnants of chocolate, and I moan into his mouth, absorbing the taste.

“Elise,” he whispers against me, deepening the kiss. I fall into him, everything plummeting like there’s nothing left to live for and today is the apocalypse. My hand finds and unclicks my seatbelt, then his, and then I’m lifting myself from the passenger seat to slide over the console and onto his lap. He pants as he accepts me, a low groan sounding from deep in his throat. It’s like a grenade in the quiet car, fueling my desire.

I slip my thighs over him, straddling him in the driver’s seat. My hand slips down his chest and grabs one of his, guiding it to my breast. His head falls back against the headrest as I devour him, and he squeezes, rolling his thumb around and around, moaning in satisfaction. Things are spiraling out of control fast, but his touch is so gentle, so patient, like he’s touching glass. I’m breakable to him, but the pressure is firm and certain.

It makes me want him even more.

My hands glide over his hard abdomen and find their way under his shirt, fumbling with his belt buckle. I’ll ride him right here if he’ll let me.

“Wait,” he breathes, dropping a hand to his belt.

“I got it,” I say, undoing the loop. “Keep touching me.” I continue undoing his belt while I reach back with my free hand to loosen my hair tie, letting my wet hair fall around my shoulders. I feel naked already, with no powder on my nose or mascara coating my lashes. My hair isn’t blown out to perfection, and my lips are natural, but I’m raw and open to him, and it makes me brave.

“Elise, not yet.” He smiles against my mouth and brings his head forward, his breathing labored. “I owe you dinner, beautiful.”

“I don’t want food.” I roll my hips to meet his erection and his head snaps back, smacking the headrest.

“Shit, baby, you’re killing me here.”

“So quit struggling.” I lean down and bite his neck, dragging his flesh sharply through my teeth.

He groans. “I don’t have anything in here.”

“In my bag.” I blindly feel my way to the passenger seat for my purse, digging out a condom.

He lets me tear at the wrapper for a second before snatching it from my hand. “Elise, I really want to give you that meal.”

I stop kissing him, pulling back to search his eyes for traces of evidence of sarcasm, but I only find sincerity.

Our chests rise and fall against each other as our breathing slows, and I slowly shift off of his lap, lazily sliding back into the passenger seat. My head rolls toward him.

“You have the restraint of a saint.”

“You have a sinful body. There are too many things I want to do to it to qualify as saintly.”

“Well, we can’t all keep our wings clean.”

“My wings are black when I’m near you.”

“You’re in luck.” I straighten my sweater and sit up. “My wings are black all the time.”

★ Book Blitz Giveaway ☆ Unearthed, Resistance Trilogy #4 by Rachael Wade

by Rachael Wade (The Resistance Trilogy #4)

This is a short novella (approximately 25,000 words) and is intended to be read after The Tragedy of Knowledge. It takes place after the events of The Resistance Trilogy.

For Gavin and Camille, the Amaranthian war is over. But they’ve evolved since then, and so has the realm they’ve come to know as home. Now comfortable and happy in their new life, they soon discover that something groundbreaking is brewing, threatening to disrupt the peace they’ve worked so hard to secure. And whether they’re prepared or not, it’s about to be unearthed.

“You,” Gavin breathed, “are trouble, Camille Hart.”

I half panted, half laughed. He only called me by my maiden name when I was indeed trouble. “Well, I hope you learned your lesson. Next time, don’t be so bossy.” Smiling into his neck, I gave him a light bite, sucking gently on his damp skin.

“I think Audrey’s snark finally rubbed off on you.”
Finally?” I pulled back to look him in the eye, arching my brow. “Have you been living
under a rock?”
“I like it,” he said cheerfully. “The new and improved Mrs. Devereaux.”
“And I like you bossy.” I poked him in the shoulder, my grin spreading. “Although I must admit I miss your shy smile. I think you’ve let your head get too big, husband.”
“I can’t help it,” he leaned in and grazed my nose with his, inhaling deeply. “Making love to you makes me bold.”
“As it should.” I pecked the end of his nose. “Now I do believe it’s time for you to feed your wife. She’s starving.”
“Well,” he laughed, sliding off of me to zip up his pants, “fortunately we’re in the right place.” I stood and straightened out my dress, allowing Gavin to zip me up. We both turned and surveyed our surroundings.
“Uh, yeah…” I cleared my throat, eyeing the restaurant table
Gavin had just thrown me on, “about that…”
Our poor, poor customers.
“Not like it’s the first time,” Gavin grinned, adjusting his shirt collar.
“True. But we’re probably going straight to hell for it.”
“Hey,” he bent down to pick up all the items we’d tossed from the table, “I built this place and designed it with my own two hands. It’s our place of business, but we practically live here, too. If I want to take my wife on my restaurant table, I’ll take my wife on my restaurant table.”
“Fine, fine.” I smiled and raised my hands in surrender, shaking my head. I had to admit, Gavin was right. Audrey’s Restaurant was our second home. When we weren’t tucked away in our cottage-style abode down the road, we were here. Something also told me that Audrey would be quite proud of the way Gavin and I utilized the kitchen named after her.
Our loyal patrons who came in every evening for a warm, home-cooked meal would probably feel different about the matter.
“Speaking of business, I was thinking of maybe opening the place up for lunch hours again. What do you think?”
“Who will watch Ava? We don’t need the extra money, Gav. We have everything we need.”
“I know, love, but it can’t hurt to put away some extra.
Maybe we’ll want to make some upgrades to the house some day. How will we do
that without some extra in savings?”
I couldn’t help but smile at his words. Our savings accounts and currency were nothing like what we had back on Earth, but as Amaranthians, we’d found a system that worked for our realm. We’d all voted on a new structure for the villages when Gérard’s reign fell, and maintaining some common traditions—some normalcy—from our lives on Earth was a part of that structure.
It was important to us. Still, it wasn’t like we were saving for yearly vacations or college tuition for our children. Our financial goals were much more limited.
“What’s so funny?” Gavin asked, enjoying my amusement.
“Nothing, it’s just…this is so surreal. Even now, after all these years. Doesn’t it ever feel that way to you?”
“Ah,” he nodded in understanding, moving to sweep his arms around me and kiss my forehead. “Of course it does. I guess it’s just been easier for me to adapt. I left my humanity long before you did, remember?”
Pulling back to smile down at me, he pinned me with soft, mocha eyes. “You
still miss Earth.”
“You don’t?” I gasped. I was genuinely surprised by this.
“What about your grandfather’s home? What about our friends—”
“Of course I miss all of those things.” He tilted my chin up, his expression completely earnest now. “And you know how I feel about our friends. I just don’t let my mind linger on what life was like anymore. This is life now.”
“Don’t you ever wish…there were more?” I whispered, feeling ashamed. In truth, our Amaranthian life had been more than I could have ever asked for. I had a beautiful family, a safe, comfortable home, and everything I needed right here in our village. No more Gérard, no more zombie witches or evil guards threatening everyone I loved.
Then there was my life on Earth before all of this. Before I’d ever met Gavin or entered into the world of the frozen souls and the witches.
My life was once littered with toxic relationships, fear, and an unspeakable weight I’d carried around from the burden of my troubled relationship with my mother. Things on Earth didn’t make a whole lot of sense to begin with, so I guess living here, in some strange, distant realm, really was paradise compared to all of that drama.
But some things would always be missing.
“Hey,” Gavin called me softly, as if reading my mind, “I know how hard it is for you. I know how much you miss them.”
I nodded, feeling my face tighten with emotion at the thought of the friends and family we’d lost—the relationships we had to sacrifice in order to destroy Gérard and give them a chance at a happy, free life on Earth. Not a day went by when I didn’t think of them and wonder where they might be, what they were up to, or how they were enjoying their human
“There’s nothing wrong with wishing for more. You don’t think I wonder sometimes? What it would be like to have more here to pursue? I know we’re limited when it comes to life goals. There’s no traveling to Europe, no enrolling Ava in a university, no possibility of taking an RV out on an open road. And I know no one will ever replace the people we lost. But things are changing, Cam.” His thumb drifted across my cheekbone, then down over my bottom lip. “Who knows what Amaranth will be like a year from now, let alone five or
ten. Things are only going to get better from here, love. You’ll see.”
“You really think so?”
“I know so.”
